Inside the pub
MacCarthy's Pub is located at Upper Main Street, Dingle, Co. Kerry. The Pub has been in the MacCarthy family since the early 1800's. It has proved popular as a social establishment since that time and still maintains it's original charm. The Pub interior has changed through the years as some of our images show, while on the outside only the colours have changed.
MacCarthy's Pub is Dingle's Best Venue with the finest of music and drama on show. Our mini- theatre at the rear of the pub has staged some of Ireland's great acts. Stars like Mundy and Paddy Casey have recently played great nights in MacCarthy's. The cosy theatre holds in both the music and the atmosphere, as the musicians play away in the midst of the crowd. It is a truly special experience.
But MacCarthy's also plays it's role in the community. It is a meeting place for the local committees for the Dingle Races and the Goat Street Wren. Our local TD, Minister for Justice, Mr. John O'Donoghue, holds his monthly clinic by the fireplace in MacCarthy's Backroom.
The Folk Club
MacCarthy's Pub Folk Club runs all year. We bring the best of local, national and international talent to Dingle Town. Music, Drama, Poetry, and Singing, all great, all at MacCarthy's Pub.
Just to give you a taste of the talent that has played with us...
During Christmas 2001, one of MacCarthy's and Irelands most loved bands provided a great night in the pub. On December 21st, Scullion played the back rooms and gave a superb performance. Hopefully, we'll see them back here soon.
The tradition of the singer-songwriter in Irish music, and its history. In 2001, the line-up for the folk club included, heroes old and new. Sonny Condell and Phillip king, two of Ireland's most famous traditional performers, brought the house down in July 2001.
In September, as part of the Carlsberg music festival, world-renowned singer songwriter Mundy played a concert in MacCarthy's Pub. Mundy was on top form that night and an enthusiastic crowd hugely appreciated his set.
Another artist who is greatly respected in MacCarthy's Pub and around the country is Roesy, a great singer and guitar player. He rocked the place last august and will be back here soon.
Continuing our season of top solo acts, Damien Dempsey took to the stage for a couple of nights in 2001, including a gig over the October Bank Holiday Weekend. Another who we hope to return soon.
